When Is New Year's Day?
January 1. This has been the start of the year in the Gregorian calendar since 1582, though many countries adopted it later. Some cultures celebrate their new year on different dates: Chinese New Year falls between January 21 and February 20, the Jewish new year (Rosh Hashanah) is in September or October, and the Islamic new year shifts through the seasons because it follows a lunar calendar.
